BELOIT- Effective August 24th, 2024, Community Action, Inc. of Rock and Walworth Counties (CAI) will no longer provide after school and summer programming for youth and will no longer provide regular programming for area seniors at the Merrill Community Center located at 1428 Wisconsin Ave, Beloit WI. After assessing services, CAI made the decision to discontinue its youth and senior programs and focus efforts in other areas based on several factors including program availability though community partners. The facility will be utilized by other CAI programs and will continue to support the Merrill Neighborhood and the City of Beloit.
“Decisions to discontinue programs are never easy and come with a great deal of forethought and a bit of trepidation,” said Marc Perry, Executive Director of CAI. “As a proud product of the Merrill Neighborhood and someone who understands the value of safe spaces, especially for children, this decision could not have been more difficult. We will work closely with our families and with our community partners to ensure that those who have come to rely on Merrill Community Center for programming have healthy alternatives and will not fall through the cracks. Merrill Community Center remains a vital component of our outreach and engagement to the Beloit Community and Community Action will continue its advocacy efforts for an equitable and inclusive Beloit.”
CAI remains a strong advocate in the community and resources are available at our other locations. For those seeking support in the Merrill community, CAI advises residents to contact us at our main office located at 20 Eclipse Center, Beloit WI, for assistance.
CAI purchased the Merrill Community Center in July of 2017 and will continue to provide services that revitalize the area in which the building is located. CAI’s goal remains the same; to strengthen the community by providing programs and resources that build strong families, sustain neighborhoods and celebrate inclusion.
Further information will be provided as CAI works hard to continue serving the Merrill Community, the City of Beloit and all of Rock and Walworth Counties.
