Rock County Emergency Management activates community cooling centers when temperatures exceed 90 degrees.

Citizens who do not have access to air conditioning in their homes are encouraged to seek out air-conditioned facilities such as public buildings, malls, libraries, or senior centers, or stay with family or neighbors who have air conditioning.

Organizations and businesses established as Rock County Cooling Centers are air-conditioned facilities where citizens can “beat the heat.”

Several locations across the county are welcoming citizens to escape the heat and cool off their normal business hours. (Click here for locations, updated 9/5/2023.)

• When forecasted temperatures and/or real temperatures exceed 90 degrees in Rock County, these locations shall automatically authorize their use as a Cooling Center during their normal business hours only. These locations will not extend or alter their hours so citizens should plan accordingly. Cooling sites may close without notification and are not obligated to participate.

• Cooling Centers are not over-night shelters. Citizens requiring overnight sheltering should contact local shelters for services. Citizens are responsible for their own belongings, water, and nourishment.
