BELOIT—Community Action, Inc. of Rock & Walworth Counties (CAI) is proud to announce that Anastasia Givhan, CAI’s Success Coach Coordinator, has earned the 2022 Wisconsin Community Action Program Association (WISCAP) Courage Award.

This prestigious statewide award recognizes an individual who has overcome significant barriers in attaining economic security.

Anastasia first came to CAI nearly a decade ago seeking housing. She worked through many challenges as she enrolled in our Transitional Living program, Transitional Jobs program and worked full time as the receptionist at CAI’s Pathways Center in Beloit.

She was able to help many people facing similar obstacles, and she continues to give back in her current role as the Success Coach Coordinator for our employment and training programs.
“Anastasia demonstrates courage every day; she has shown it her entire life,” says Marc Perry, CAI executive director.

“It took courage and cunning to navigate her challenging childhood and adolescence. It took courage and humility to walk through the door to Community Action and ask for help. It took courage and perseverance to be successful in school and in our programs. It took courage and strength to advocate for herself and make us believe in her. Anastasia is the living, breathing manifestation of this award. She has been and continues to be courageous in her life in ways that most of us will never have to be.”

Anastasia will receive her award Wednesday, October 19th at WISCAP’s state Poverty Matters conference in Madison.
