Food tallies are in for AWARE’s “Summer Hungry” food and hygiene drive. The agency partnered with local churches, banks, and the library to coordinate the community-wide drive, which ended July 11, to benefit the Evansville Ecumenical Care Closet.

More than 370 pounds of food and hygiene items were collected during the campaign. BMO Harris Bank, Greenwoods State Bank, Lake Ridge Bank, Evansville Congregational UCC, Evansville UMC, Oak Grove Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Paul Catholic Church, and Eager Free Public Library all had collection bins available for community members to drop off their donations.

AWARE in Evansville and the Care Closet were thrilled with the generous outpouring of donations. All donations have been taken to the Care Closet for distribution to local families.

AWARE, a program of Community Action, Inc. of Rock and Walworth Counties, is a grassroots program created in 1998 to address the needs of Evansville’s growing low-income population. AWARE’s services benefit struggling families, seniors, and disabled adults who reside within the Evansville Community School District. All financial and in-kind contributions to AWARE are invested 100% in the Evansville community to help our local friends, families, and neighbors in need.
